HANDEL'S ACIS AND GALATE(O)
Production on hold, Dates TBA
This new production is a reimagining of George Fredrick Handel’s opera Acis and Galatea, broaching the subject of violence focused both on oppressed communities and within their own borders. With a shift of the time period, added music and a reordering of the score, the librettist’s message addressing systemic violence will be brought to bear on the devastating plague of violence which has become a part of our daily experience. In an effort to push opera toward a more progressive space, the goal of Spooky Goose Opera’s production of Handel’s Acis and Galatea is to uplift marginalized performers who may not typically be given a chance to perform. The direction Spooky Goose Opera is choosing to go with Acis and Galatea will allow for marginalized communities and their allied singers to perform a reimagined baroque opera.
